Grindelwald
Brief Resort Overview: Grindelwald is located at an altitude of 1044m in the Berner Oberland Alps approximately 90 miles Southwest of Zurich and
120 miles Northeast of Geneva. The big village is part of the larger Jungfrau Region Ski Area.
One of the nicest things to do in the resort is to take the cog train up to the top station on the Jungfraujoch which at over 3400m is
the highest train station in the Alps. The resort is also famous for the revolving restaurant on the Piz Gloria which was used as the set for a
James Bond movie. The station is noted as patrimony to mankind and has a cool ice cave inside. Like most Swiss ski resorts the main village
is modern with a main shopping street with a few boutique stores. Although most of the marked runs are for intermediate skiers the slopes above
Wengernalp offer excellent powder skiing.
Principal advantages of the resort: This is a quintessential down-to-earth Swiss resort complete with all the Gruyère cheese without
the pretentious complications of St. Moritz and its wan'abe visitors. Everything is perfect; the resort is clean.
The town of Interlaken and the lakes are nearby; it is possible that non-skiers use Grindelwald as a base to explore nearby Swiss towns such as
Interlaken, Berne and Lucerne.
Best Time to go: Late January- mid March
